Cancer

CANCER INFORMATION:

Your whole body is made out of cells and each of those cells has its own DNA.  When you and your cells are healthy they grow and divide and repair and eventually replace dying cells.  Cells that are growing out of control; unhealthy cell growth can become a tumor.  Not all tumors are malignant or cancerous.    There are more than 100 varieties of cancer.  All cancers have different causes and grow at different rates.  Two of the major causes of cancer are the environment and diet.  Both break down the immune system.  Experts now link cancer to stress as well as diet. 

There are four main categories of cancer:  Carcinoma affects the skin, mucous membranes, glands and organs.  Leukemia is cancer of the blood.  Sarcoma affects connective tissue, muscles, and bones.  Lymphoma affects the lymphatic system.

According to the American Cancer Society more than 80% of American will develop cancer at some point.  Fifty percent of those will be men.  The good news is that millions are surviving cancer and getting on with life.  There are seven warning signs that we have all heard throughout the years.  It pays to repeat them.  A change in bowel habits, a sore that does not heal, unusual bleeding or discharge, thickening or a lump in the breast or elsewhere, indigestion or difficulty swallowing, a change in a wart or mole and a nagging cough or hoarseness.

Being aware of any changes in your body will help you recognize signs that point to a possible problem.  Women should do a monthly breast exam and men do a testicular cancer self-test.  You can find simple kits at the drugstore to test for colon cancer. 

Chemotherapy is the treatment of choice in most cases.  The side effects are devastating: hair loss, extreme nausea, weakness, and damage to the kidneys and heart.  Even if you choose to do chemotherapy you can avoid the side effects and protect your immune system.  If you follow this type of regimen, you can be well! 

The recommendations that are listed below are for those that have cancer and for those who want to practice preventative measures.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

*Bee Pollen     As directed (1/4 tsp., 2 times daily.  Increase every 7 days, until taking several tbls. each day.)    Complete nutrition that is easily assimilated by the body.  Helps stress and supports the immune system.

*Propolis     2 grams daily                
This is an anti-cancer substance and an antibiotic.  It strengthens the immune system.  It is helpful in fighting all cancer, particularly lung and prostate.  See the “PROSTATE HEALTH” page for additional information.

*Cancer Therapy Tea     3-4 cups daily
This formula has a base of red clover, therefore it helps the person get through chemotherapy without nausea or hair loss.  The other herbs in this formula help reduce tumors, slow unhealthy cell growth, purify the blood, improve quality of life, and help put cancer in remission.   

*Shark Cartilage     As directed                  
Shark cartilage prevents new blood work from being formed, therefore, starving the tumor.  There are mixed studies on this supplement.  It still seems to have value.  It stimulates the immune system.

*Coenzyme Q10     100 mgs. daily
Promotes oxygen in the cells.  If you can take more of this supplement, please do.  Very important.

*Garlic Capsules     2 capsules, 3 times daily      
Helps the immune system.

*Beta-Carotene     10,000 I.U.’s daily
Powerful antioxidant.

*
Vitamin A
     75,000 I.U.’s daily         
Antioxidant.

*Vitamin E     1000 I.U.’s daily  
Antioxidant.  A division of hematology/oncology at East Carolina University School of Medicine in Greenville, N.C., looked at the effect vitamin E on cancer cell lines.  Specific Types of breast cancer, prostate cancer and erythroleukemia were looked at---conclusion was that this supplement could inhibit cancer cell growth.  More research will give us more information.

*Selenium:      200 mcgs. daily The Journal of the American Medical Association reported that a study conducted at the University of Arizona, Tucson, showed a 50 percent decrease in cancer deaths, 63 percent fewer cases of prostate cancer, 58 percent fewer cases of colon cancer and 46 percent fewer incidence of lung cancer for the group given selenium.
*Grapeseed Extract (Activin brand)
  100 mg daily.  Studies suggest that it reduces cancer cell production 43% to 47%.  A powerful antioxidant.

*MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane)  as directed on the label.  Potent cancer prevention.

*Vitamin C     10,000 mgs. daily, divided up throughout the day.
Remember Linus Pauling.  It is a powerful antioxidant.

*
S.O.D.
      As directed.           
Destroys free radicals, antioxidant.

*Pycnogenol     As directed     
Another powerful antioxidant.

*Maitake D-fraction   As directed on the label.  This mushroom extract contains a substance that inhibits the growth of cancer.  It is also an adtogen, helping the body adapt to stress and cancer treatment.

ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS:

An anti-cancer diet would include wheat, bran, brown rice, grains, seeds and nuts.  Vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, carrots, pumpkin, squash, yams, and cantaloupe.  Other foods that help prevent and fight cancer are cherries, apples, Brazil nuts, grapes, chickpeas, red beans, plums and lentils. 

Drink spring water or steam distilled water.  Don’t forget to include onions and garlic in your food list.  Many people eat 10 almonds a day because of the laetrile---this acts as an anti-cancer agent.  Exercise is important and avoid stress.  The last one may be difficult, but remember -- bee pollen, bee pollen, bee pollen!!!

Stay away from animal protein, especially hot dogs, lunch meat, and smoked meats.  Once you’re well on the road to recovery, you can have fish (broiled) 2-3 times a week.  Eliminate coffee, alcohol and teas, except for herbal tea.  Eliminate junk foods, saturated fats, refined foods, white flour, salt and sugar.  Sweeten foods and drinks with honey or maple syrup.  Salt foods with kelp and/or herb salt substitute. 

Avoid chemicals, cleaning compounds, fresh paint, pesticides and cosmetic sprays.  These create free radicals and damage cells.  This in turn weakens the immune system. 

The New England Journal reported that people with excess iron levels in the blood tend to have an increased risk of developing cancer.  They also reported that calcium may prevent pre-cancerous cells from becoming cancerous.  Hundreds of scientists from around the world have discovered that niacin plays a role in prevention and treatment of cancer. 

In 1988, the British Journal of Surgery suggested that essential fatty acids, found in evening primrose oil and fish oil, aid in prevention and treatment of malignant melanoma.

COMMENTS:

Remember it is your life -- the choices are yours.  Don’t let anyone tell you not to follow your doctor’s advice.  Just make sure you include the nutritional helps, so that you have the deck stacked in your favor.  We have seen many people do both with success.  Along with all the advice, your attitude is most important.  Talk about your illness -- get to know it.  Use meditation and a support group to help you.  These things really make the difference. You can beat cancer!
